I've always had a keen interest in art. I regularly won the weekly colouring competition in our local paper and at school I took Art Sculpture as one of my A Levels. But, when it came to career choices I didn't really know what I wanted to do and so ended up in a Customer Service role.
When I was first married, I started an evening course in Jewellery and Silversmithing, Unfortunately we moved out of the area and I couldn't continue. However, once my children had started school and I was looking to work from home, I started thinking about making jewellery.
I took a couple of courses, bought some beads and I was hooked. The great thing about jewellery is that it is visible and people would comment on a piece and ask where I'd bought it. I'd tell them that I had made it myself and they'd ask me to make them one, and it just went from there. I still get a real sense of pride when someone admires a piece that I've made, or I see someone wearing jewellery that I have made.
I generally sell my jewellery at parties in people's homes and offices or, at local craft fairs. Customers often contact me when they are buying gifts and want an original piece of jewellery that is different to that in the shops.
Thank you for taking the time to visit J I Designs I hope you find something that you like.
